DAVID A. STRAND, MD, FACS
Credentials
David A. Strand, MD, FACS, is Board Certified in General Surgery. He is currently the Chief of Staff at Avera McKennan Hospital. He is a member of the American Society of General Surgeons, the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, and Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Strand is also a member of the Avera Health Plans Regional Care Council, serves on the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority, and serves as a course director and instructor for Advanced Trauma Life Support. He serves as the South Dakota Chairman of the Committee on Trauma for the American College of Surgeons.
In addition, he is the past Chairman of the Department of Surgery and past Vice Chief of Staff at Avera McKennan Hospital.
Education
Dr. Strand graduated first in his class from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. He has a BA in Biology and Chemistry from St. Olaf College and a MS in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of North Dakota. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from both schools. He completed his residency at the prestigious Bowman Gray School of Medicine in North Carolina.
