DAVID A. STRAND, MD, FACS
Credentials
David A. Strand, MD, FACS, is board certified in General Surgery. Dr. Strand is a member of the American Society of General Surgeons, the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, and Alpha Omega Alpha. He is a member of the Regional Care Council of Avera Health Plans, serves on the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority, and serves as a course director and instructor for Advanced Trauma Life Support. He serves as the South Dakota Chairman of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. He is the past Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Avera McKennan Hospital, and is the Vice-Chief of the Avera McKennan Medical Staff.
Education
He graduated first in his class from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. He has a BA in Biology and Chemistry from St. Olaf College and a MS in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of North Dakota. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from both schools. He completed his residency at the prestigious Bowman Gray School of Medicine in North Carolina.
