Credentials
Donald J. Wingert, MD, FACS, is Board Certified in General Surgery. He is the past Chairman of the Department of Surgery and past Chief of Staff at Avera McKennan Hospital. He has also served as the South Dakota Chairman of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Wingert holds an academic appointment from the University of South Dakota as a Clinical Assistant Professor. He is a member of the American Society of General Surgeons, the Northern Plains Vascular Surgical Society, and the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. He is also a past member of the board of trustees at Avera McKennan Hospital.

Education
Dr. Wingert graduated third in his class from the University of South Dakota and completed his residency at Kansas University serving as a resident instructor for Gross Anatomy. Dr. Wingert is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha.
