Bradley C. Thaemert, MD, FACS
Credentials
Dr. Bradley Thaemert is Board Certified in General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Thaemert graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and completed his General Surgery Residency at Gunderson Medical Foundation-Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Dr. Thaemert has special interest in all areas of minimally invasive general surgery.
His interests include:
- Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS)
- Endoscopic overstitch procedures
- Robotic-assisted surgical techniques

- Trauma and critical care
- Abdominal surgery
- Gastrointestinal surgery
- Hernia repair
Surgical oncology including:
- Sentinel lymph node biopsies
- Endoscopy
Endocrine surgery including:
- That of the thyroid and parathyroid
- Sclerotherapy for varicose veins
- Surgical treatment of acid reflux
Surgical weight loss procedures including:
- Gastric bypass
- Gastric band
- Sleeve gastrectomy procedures
Non-surgical weight loss options including:
- ORBERA intragastric balloon
- Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) procedures
Professional Memberships
Dr. Thaemert is an active member of the South Dakota State Medical Association (SDSMA), the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the Seventh District Medical Society. He currently serves as the South Dakota Chairman of the Committee on Trauma for the American College of Surgeons and is the Medical Director for the Avera McKennan Bariatric Institute. In the past, he has served in many roles for Avera McKennan Hospital including Chairman of the Department of Surgery and as a Member of the Board of Trustees.
Teaching Experience
Dr. Thaemert holds an academic appointment from the University of South Dakota as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and is active in the education of medical students and residents. He is also an Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor.
Family
Dr. Thaemert and his wife, Jana, have three daughters, and they enjoy family vacations, skiing, and biking.
